Frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean that this preschool has teaching families?

(The 23-24 school year we will have limited opportunities for parents to work in the classroom )

It means that in this community we contribute our own special talents and all help each other out for the benefit of all our children. A community where it’s important to believe that the more you put into the community, the more you and especially your children get out of the community. Parents assist the teacher in the classroom to create a high adult-child ratio and provide a great learning environment for each child.

What is the philosophy of the school?

WAP is a developmentally appropriate, play-based preschool. This means that we believe kids of this age learn best by hands-on experience with their world, not by forced memorization and seatwork. We have selected what we consider the best parts of many philosophies of early childhood education including Montessori, Reggio Emilia and Waldorf in order to create a balance of quality materials, meaningful dialogues and fun! We provide a wide range of activities that are developmentally correct for these ages (art projects, science experiments, sewing, goofing around, music, yoga, gardening, dance….)

What ages do we serve?

We enroll children ages 3, 4 and 5.

What days do children attend school?

We have 2 classrooms with approximately 15 children each on a Monday-Friday schedule 8:30-12:30 with children enrolled on a 4 or 5 day schedule.  The 2023-24 school year will have 8:15-12:15, 8:30-12:30, or 8:45-12:45 drop-off and pick up times available as well as extended day options dependent on parent interest.

Is there an enrollment fee?

Yes. The current enrollment fee is $275.00. It is NON-REFUNDABLE

What is the monthly tuition for the 2023-24?

4 day non teaching family $440

5 day non teaching family $500

ALL FEES SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Scholarship opportunities, transportation and meal assistance available, ask me how!

What are the teaching parents’ responsibilities/commitments to the school?

Work as a teaching parent in the classroom every other week or monthly for a reduced tuition cost.

Complete a background check and Child CPR certification by Oct.1 each school year.

Can I observe a class?

Please fill out our contact form and we will contact you to schedule a visit after school hours.

When is the school closed for snow or extraordinary weather?

The preschool will be closed if  Buncombe County School District is closed due to inclement weather. If they have a 2 hour delay we have a regular school day so long as our driveway is clear to drive up. We will send out an email and post info on Facebook by 7:30 am if anything changes.
